You can own your OWN apartment/turf that you can decorate to any extent.
Read below for details on renting, and securing your turf!

Click the ladies below to see the turf previews

Apartment Manager: These are NOT real people. From these women, you may select to Rent an apartment, pay rent on a turf, add an owner to lease, change turf address, and break lease on a turf. Normally, when renting an apartment, it will automatically add it to your turf list. To remove it, go to your Favorites Dialog (File-Favorites Dialog, or click on elevator) then click the turf name and select the arrow point to the left (<--).When renting, the manager will suggest "Chez (Your Avatar Name)". For security reasons you should not just accept the default name but make up a new unique name. There may be a maximum of 15 people on one lease. Turfs give the lease holder(s) a great degree of control over how their turf operates. Because of the level of this control, lease holders are responsible for who they allow on their lease, the property in their turf, access to their turf and handling unwelcome guests in their turf. Consiglieres and Citizens are not required to oversee or mediate turf-related disputes between owners and their guests and will do so at their sole individual discretion.
Be VERY careful when inviting someone to a turf. By making your turf as your "Home", you are taking a giant risk. If your account was ever to be hacked, one could easily enter your turf by going to your "Home". Where as, if it was a different name on your turf list, this would be more difficult. (Your turf list is stored locally on your computer: c:\windows\fjwa.ini)

Elevator: Now that you own a turf, you might wonder how you go about entering it. Apartment elevators are available to the right of the Manager. To add a turf to your turf list, you will need to click "Favorites Dialog", type in the turf address where it says "Manual Add", then click "Add to Favorites". It will now appear on the "Ride the elevator to...>" menu. To visit a turf that you do not wish to have on your turf list, click "Ride the elevator to...>" then select "Other" and type in the turf name. Your turf list is stored locally on your computer, and you may wish to back up this file (C:\Windows\fjwa.ini).

Securing a locale or your turf: To secure a single LOCALE (or to limit the number of avatars/ghosts), click on a flat in the turf and select "Room -> Access Control" (see top image). To secure the turf from permitting anyone in, or having the turf boot everyone when all owners exit, click on a flat in the turf and select "Turf -> Access Control" (see bottom image). To remove a single guest, click on a flat in the turf and select "Room -> Remove Guest". To remove EVERY guest from the turf, click on a flat in the turf and select "Turf -> Remove All Guests". **Caution: Other owners MAY be booted by removing a GUEST, however, not by removing ALL guests.

Once you have rented a turf, you can now start decorating.

You can paint the walls and floors (sometimes other things inside it also).
Buy a turf spray from the Shopping Mall (3rd floor, to the right).
Inside your turf, while holding the spray can, click the item in which you would
like to paint, then choose spray.. paint this.

As the owner of the apartment you can do quite a bit with items besides just putting them on the floor.

Glue down
This option will only appear on an item that you put down in your own turf. Once you have glued down an item in your turf, only you or another owner can unglue it. A guest clicking on a glued item will not see a get option and will therefore be unable to pick it up. It's always best to glue all items before inviting others into your turf, any unglued item can be picked up by a guest. When gluing chests, the stuff inside it can be removed even though the chest is glued.
Once you have glued down an item its popup menu will change:

Unglue
This will unglue an item and thus enable you (and every other avatar) to take the item using Get. Unglued items will remain at the position they were glued at

Move Item
The Move Item option is about the most powerful feature of an item. Using this Control panel you can move an item anywhere in the room and rotate it around its axis.

Position
This gives you control of the position of the item in the room along the x-axis (left to right), y-axis (front to back), and the z-axis (height). The origin of the three axis' (x=0, y=0, z=0) is in the lower left corner in the front. The maximum of the axis (x=480, y=507, z=250) is in the upper right corner in the back.
To change the position of an item enter the coordinates you want it to be at and click on update. The item will now be moved to the specified position. You can change the position as often as you like.

Facing:
Facing shows you the way the item faces. Use the two buttons below (Rotate left / Rotate right) to change it. Clicking on either button has an immediate effect. You can turn an item as often as you like.

Once you are satisfied with the position and facing of the item click on Close to close the panel.

You can also move items by holding down the shift key and holding down the mouse button. This will move an item from side/side and up/down, this does not move the 'y' position.
